Machine shop

Machine shop, welding and fabrication

A full machine shop, an in-house nut buster, welding service and custom tanks made in many materials and any size.

Chapter 01

A full machine shop behind the parts counter

At 116 Wolcott Rd in Terryville, the counter, the repair bench and a full machine shop share one building, so a cylinder that needs a rod turned or a fitting that does not exist on a shelf stays under one roof and one phone number, (860) 582-0308. A parts question, a repair question and a machining question can all be answered in the same call.

The shop also runs an in-house nut buster. When a nut has seized onto a stud or a hydraulic fitting after years of heat and weather, a nut buster splits the nut off so the work can continue. It is a small tool with a big effect on a repair that was stuck at the first step.

Welding and custom-fabricated parts and supplies

Welding service is part of the same shop, and the services page lists custom-fabricated parts and supplies among the work. That covers the case where the part you need is no longer catalogued or never was. Bring the old piece, the broken half of it, or the dimensions, and the counter will tell you what can be made.

The shop has served New England since 1973, and the counter staff are used to being handed a worn part and nothing else. Michael B. wrote on cchydraulics.com that the staff quickly knew exactly which part he needed without him showing any specifications. Fabrication starts from that same habit of reading the part in front of you.

Chapter 03

Tanks in any size and cylinders built to your numbers

Tanks are custom made in many materials and any size. That is the shop's own description, and it fits equipment where a stock reservoir will not fit the frame, hold the volume or survive the fluid. Give the counter the volume, the ports and where the tank has to live, and it is a conversation about a build, not a catalog lookup.

The same goes for cylinders: as the shop puts it, “We can manufacture custom cylinders to meet your needs.” Repairing an existing cylinder is covered on the cylinder page, and a new custom one starts with the old cylinder or the stroke, bore and mounting you need. Machine shop work is quoted by phone or email, with no prices posted.
