Cylinder bench
Cylinder repair and custom cylinders
Tie-rod, welded, telescopic and multi-stage cylinders torn down, resealed and rebuilt on the bench, plus custom cylinders built to your numbers.
Chapter 01
Why a cylinder weeps, drifts or scores
A cylinder usually tells you what is wrong before it quits. A rod seal that weeps oil down the chrome, a piston seal that lets the load drift with the valve centered, a rod with a score or a bend, a tube pitted inside the bore. Each one has a different fix, and guessing costs more than looking. Bring the cylinder to the counter at 116 Wolcott Rd in Terryville and we will take it apart and find out.
Customers describe the result better than we can. One wrote that “They rebuilt the piston on my two-post lift and did a solid job” and that “everything works perfectly now” (Google review). Another, in a review on cchydraulics.com, said “They quickly found the seals I needed for my hydraulic cylinder and then went ahead and installed them on the piston.” Seals and pistons are everyday work here.

On the bench: teardown, measure, reseal
Repair starts with a teardown. The cylinder comes apart on the bench, and the rod, the tube, the gland and the piston get checked one at a time. Rods and tubes are on our repair list alongside seals, and the machine shop is in-house, so a scored rod or a worn bore gets handled at Wolcott Road instead of becoming a second errand across the state.
The cylinders that come through are not all one kind. The list we work from includes air, aluminum, aviation and aerospace, clamping, crane, DOT, flanged, heavy duty mill type, high pressure, hydraulic telescopic, large bore, lift and tilt, locking, marine, miniature, multi-stage, NFPA standard, press, tie-rod, welded and workholding cylinders, plus forklift repair cylinders. If yours is on that list or close to it, call (860) 582-0308.
Chapter 03
Custom cylinders from your old one or your numbers
If the cylinder you need is not on a shelf anywhere, our answer is plain: “We can manufacture custom cylinders to meet your needs.” That is possible because the full machine shop and the welding service are in-house, so the cylinder is made in the same building where you hand over the measurements.
Bring the old cylinder if you have it, or the dimensions if you do not: bore, stroke, rod diameter, mounting style and port size. A worn original is the best drawing there is. Call the counter at (860) 582-0308 or use the contact page. Jobs like this usually involve the pumps and hoses that run the cylinder, so ask about those while you are here.
